How much time is allowed for students to complete their courses?
Students have 1 year to complete their courses and must spend at least eight weeks on a full year course.
Are the courses self paced?
Yes, students are able to log in at any time and complete as much or as little work as they need. There are no specific due dates, so the student is able to work ahead if needed, or spend extra time on lessons that are more difficult. Although the courses are self paced, students are required to complete each course within 12 months from the date of enrollment.
Do you offer courses that cover half an academic year?
Core and advanced courses cover a full academic year (180 hours) of content while electives cover half an academic year (90 hours) of content.
Do you require that students enroll in a grade level or do they have the option of enrolling in individual courses?
Students can enroll in a grade or in individual courses. Students enrolling in a grade will complete four core courses that cover a full academic year of content (36 weeks) and one elective course that covers half an academic year of content (18 weeks).
Can students enroll in courses above or below their grade level?
Yes, but they are limited to middle school courses.
What is considered a full course load for a middle school student?
Five courses would be considered a full course load. Four core courses, one in each of the subject areas: Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies plus one elective course. Core courses cover a full academic year of content (36 weeks) while electives cover 18 weeks of content.
Do students receive report cards?
Students will automatically receive an academic record upon completion of their enrollment but may also request an Academic Record any time.
Are all Keystone National Middle School courses online courses?
Our middle school courses are engaging interactive online courses designed specifically for middle school students.
How many hours can a student expect to spend on each course?
Students should expect to spend about 180 hours on a full year course and about 90 hours on an elective course. However, students who are gifted in a particular subject may be able to complete a course in less time, while other students might need to spend more time in some courses.
How much time should parents expect to spend helping their student?
It depends on the individual student, but a parent should expect that students will need help with planning, lots of encouragement and general oversight.
What is a workbook?
The workbooks provide activities and exercises that supplement the topics in the courses. Throughout the courses, students will be directed to the workbook for additional activities. The activities are generally completed in the workbooks though in some cases the student will need additional paper to work out the problems. Answer keys are provided in the work books or in the online course documents. Because the workbooks are intended to offer supplemental offline activities students should not submit the workbook for grading. All workbooks from major publishers and written specifically for middle school students. All core courses and some electives include workbooks. The following electives do not come with workbooks: PE, Career Exploration, World Language, Spanish 1, German 1 and French 1.
How much is tuition for individual courses?
Core and advanced courses covering 36 weeks of content are $379, and electives covering 18 weeks of content are $279.
Does tuition include textbooks?
All course content is online and Keystone Middle School courses do not require students to read textbooks, but all core courses and some electives include workbooks from major publishers.
Do you offer discounts for students enrolled in a full course load?
Yes, tuition for students enrolled in a grade level is $1,499. This covers four core courses (36 weeks of content each) and one elective course (18 weeks of content) and saves families about $300.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes, depending on the tuition amount, the Keystone Tuition Payment Plan allows families to spread the tuition over 4 or 9 monthly payments after an initial down payment of 20%. Shipping, if applicable, must be paid up front. There are no credit checks, set up fees or finance charges.
Does Keystone National Middle School offer support for families?
Yes, besides academic support from our middle school certified teachers, our learning coach will contact families to help them get started. Parents will also receive progress reports and have access to real-time student progress through a parent observer account.
When can students enroll at Keystone National Middle School?
We will accept pre-enrollments starting on 6/1/2008 and will require a completed enrollment form and a $75 deposit. Courses will be available on 8/1/2008. After 8/1/2008 students can enroll any time of the year.
Does Keystone National Middle School accept international students?
Yes, students from all backgrounds and geographical locations are accepted. To succeed at Keystone National Middle School students need to read and write English at 5th grade level.
Is any documentation such as a homeschool portfolio, transcripts or report cards required to enroll in Keystone National Middle School?
No, we recommend that students enrolling in Keystone National Middle School have completed 5th grade and are at 5th grade reading level.
